This symposium began as part of a cooperative effort to promote collaborations in the fields of science and technology between the UK and Japan. The "1st Bilateral UK-Japan Symposium" was held in 2004, and was followed by the "2nd Bilateral Japan-UK Symposium" in 2005. We are now happy to announce another series of these symposia, the 3rd Bilateral Japan-UK Symposium on Structural Genomics and Proteomics.
Recently, membrane proteins have gained much attention as favorable targets for drug discovery research. Despite many efforts, only limited successes in structural determinations have been achieved. The "3rd Bilateral Japan-UK symposium" aims to explore the advances, frontiers and applications of studies of membrane proteins. Especially, it will focus on high-throughput sample preparation, and structural determination using X-ray and novel NMR techniques to analyze many difficult proteins, as supported in part by the Strategic International Cooperative Program –Japan-UK Cooperation– of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Presentations and discussions of the latest research are expected to promote collaborations between the two countries. This symposium represents a valuable contribution to strengthen the UK-Japan relationship. We look forward to your attendance.
